For the Love of Trees! Christmas Giving 2020

19 Jan 2021 by Rosa Thompson

The results are in and we’re impressed. Generous individuals and businesses like you gifted 3200 native trees this Christmas, donating over $19,000 to waterway restoration! The trees will be planted at Million Metres’ projects this winter and will help to protect and restore Aotearoa’s precious waterways for years to come.

Thank you to all the individual donors who shared in their love for our rivers, streams and lakes by gifting trees on behalf of their loved ones this year. Way to promote sustainable, zero-waste gift giving!

We also want to give a special thank you to Ignite Architects, Ecotricity and Century Yuasa Batteries who collectively gifted over 1,120 trees to their clients and staff for Christmas!

Altogether, 3200 native trees will be planted by our amazing community partners during this year’s planting season. These trees will create a buffer between the waterway and the land – filtering contaminants, reducing erosion and creating habitat for native fish and birds. Trees gifted over Christmas will be planted at the following locations across New Zealand:

Brookby, Auckland
Campbells Bay, Auckland
Cardrona Kaitiaki, Otago
Devonport, Auckland
Long Bay, Auckland
Mahia Peninsula, Hawke’s Bay
Taiaotea – Rothesay Bay, Auckland
Piritahi Stream, Waiheke, Auckland
Love our Wetlands, Waiheke, Auckland
Te Aroha Valley and Hekerua Bay, Waiheke, Auckland
Kaipara Catchment, Northland

Don’t wait for next Christmas, you can give any time to a river you love! Donate today to a locally-led waterway planting project: Donate
