1,200 companies in 60 countries give one percent of revenues to environmental causes. Million Metres is now able to benefit from their commitment.

1% for the Planet started in 2002. It was founded by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. Members have given more than $175 million to environmental non-profits to date.

Kate Williams is CEO.

“We believe deeply that these nonprofits play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet,” she says. “Our core work is to grow the corporate support that enables these nonprofits to accomplish even more.”

Seatrail Agencies is a Mount Manganui-based agency for outdoor lifestyle brands. It has joined 1% for the Planet and chosen Million Metres as its beneficiary.

Seatrails most recent donation went towards its local waterway; Tahawai Stream. The project is planting more than 5,000 native plants and trees.

Kelly Swinnerton is co-founder of Seatrail.

“We hope more businesses recognise that they have an environmental responsibility,” she says. “Together we can create a positive impact! We are excited to support Million Metres this year. We look forward to seeing the amazing impact the planting can have on our waterways.”
